Cries of Slackness
E-gambling, or online gambling, is just a few taps away. Anyone can access it with a phone or a computer. And the worst part? It’s not only adults getting hooked—many students are now falling into the trap. According to the Department of Health (DOH), online gambling has become a mental health concern because of how addictive it is. It tricks people with flashing lights, fake rewards, and promises of easy money. But in reality, it only leads to stress, debt, and broken lives.
That’s why the DOH wants to ban or strictly regulate online gambling. Even Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri filed the Anti-Online Gambling Act of 2025 to protect Filipinos from its harmful effects. And honestly, it’s about time. Online gambling doesn’t just damage one person—it affects entire families. It takes away money meant for food, bills, and education. Why can’t we see the truth? Gambling will never give us a better life. It gives people false hope. It keeps them trapped in a cycle of winning and losing, until everything is gone. This is one of the silent causes of poverty in our country. Yet many still choose to ignore it, blinded by the little money they earn.
It’s not just the government’s job to stop this. We, Filipinos, should also take action. We can say no. We can speak up. We can remind others that this is not the path to success. If we keep tolerating this, more lives will be destroyed. More students will lose their focus, their dreams, and their future.
Gambling doesn’t just hurt the wallet—it poisons the mind. It changes how people act and think. It pulls students away from school, ruins families, and weakens our society. This is not just a problem—it’s a danger.
It’s time to wake up. We should not let gambling control our future. If we want real change, it has to start with us. Say no to online gambling. Choose your future over a fake game. Let’s break the cycle before it breaks us.
